17-Hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP) is a hormone used to assess adrenal function and diagnose congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH). The test helps detect Hormonal imbalances and cortisol production abnormalities. 17-Hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP) function: 17-Hydroxyprogesterone is a hormone produced by the Adrenal glands and ovaries, acting as an intermediate in the synthesis of cortisol. This test is often used to diagnose congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH), a rare genetic disorder that causes enzyme deficiencies necessary for cortisol production. Elevated levels of 17-OHP can indicate Adrenal dysfunction and abnormal cortisol production, leading to excess androgens.
