Cortisol (AM), Serum
Cortisol is a stress hormone produced by the Adrenal glands that regulates Metabolism and stress response. The morning cortisol test helps diagnose 15001 like Cushing’s disease or Addison’s disease.
Cortisol function: Cortisol is a hormone that regulates Metabolism, helps the body manage stress, and maintains blood sugar and blood pressure levels. It is produced by the Adrenal glands in response to stress and physical activity. Cortisol levels peak in the morning and gradually decrease throughout the day.
Test significance: The morning cortisol test is used to diagnose conditions related to excess or deficiency of this hormone, such as Cushing’s disease (hypercortisolism) or Addison’s disease (hypocortisolism). Elevated cortisol levels may indicate adrenal or Pituitary gland tumors, while low levels may point to Adrenal Insufficiency.
Diseases: High cortisol levels may indicate Cushing’s disease, Celiac disease, or Pituitary gland tumors. Low levels may be associated with Adrenal Insufficiency, chronic fatigue, or long-term steroid treatment.
