Luteinizing hormone (LH) regulates ovulation in women and testosterone production in men. The LH test helps diagnose Infertility, menstrual disorders, and puberty issues.
LH function: Luteinizing hormone (LH) is produced by the Pituitary gland gland and plays a key role in the Reproductive system, . In women, LH triggers ovulation — the release of an egg from the ovary. In men, LH stimulates the production of testosterone in the testes, which is essential for sperm production. LH levels fluctuate depending on the menstrual cycle phase in women.
Test significance: The LH test is used to diagnose reproductive disorders such as Infertility, amenorrhea (absence of menstruation), premature Menopause, and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). In men, elevated LH levels may indicate testosterone-related problems or testicular damage.
Diseases: Elevated LH levels may indicate approaching Menopause, PCOS, ovarian insufficiency, or Testicular Dysfunction in men. Low LH levels may be related to Hypopituitarism or other Hormonal imbalances.
